Trust helps Xmas cheer

‘Differences aside, we all share a common mission and that is to educate our children who are leaders of tomorrow’.
This was the message yesterday from Paralympic gold medallist Iliesa Delana at the Annual Bayly Fun day.

The annual event was funded by the JP Bayly Trust. While they occasionally seek donations to do functions such as this and they usually give out hampers during this event in the festive seasons every year.
JP Bayly Trust assists poor families with food ration, clothes, and beddings and medical care, and their education programme started in the year 2002 with the main aim of empowering children in education so that they come out of the poverty in which their parents are.

The children assisted in their education by the Bayly Trust enjoyed after another successful school year.
One hundred and fourteen children within the Suva and Nausori corridor are currently being assisted by the trust.
Commending Bayly trust, Mr Delana said: “I must say that so far, you have been doing a remarkable job in educating the children and the fun day shows the commitment of the Trust towards the children.
The Fun day encouraged children to succeed in education. They were awarded certificates and prizes for execptional education results and all the children were given a treat of lunch and gifts by Santa Clause.

Sixty-seven-year-old and grandmother of two Alisi Marama said she was so thankful to the JP Bayly Trust for helping her family over the years, especially her grandson who will be in Class One next year.
Ms Marama’s husband has passed away and she is now living with her only daughter who works in a garment factory earning $50 a week.
“My daughter is not married and gets very sick because of her broken rib.”
Daniel Obbah Cokanasiga, 6, and Ester Cokanasiga, 3, are her grandchildren who are constantly taken to hospital because of their illnesses.

“Bayly Trust has lifted the burden for our family by paying for Daniel’s school fees and I would like to thank the JP Bayly trust for their help.” Ms Marama said.
Senior Almoner Reverend Michael Chandra was also farewelled yesterday as he is retiring after 23 years in JP Bayly Trust.
