Promoting Healthier Communities Through Drug and Tobacco-Free Zone Billboards
Published: 03rd Jun 2026
As part of the ongoing project to combat Non-Communicable Disease the JP Bayly Team has installed a Drug and Tobacco-Free Zone billboard at the Tavakubu Community Hall.
Funded by JP Bayly, this initiative aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and drug use while encouraging community members to make positive lifestyle choices. The billboard serves as a visual reminder of the importance of creating environments that support health, well-being, and community development. This board installation is part of a broader initiative that will be implemented across Fiji through our branches in Lautoka, Suva, and Labasa. Standardized billboards carrying the same message will be erected in selected communities to promote consistent health messaging and support ongoing efforts to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Tobacco use remains one of the leading risk factors for NCDs, which continue to have a significant impact on individuals, families, and communities throughout Fiji. By displaying these messages in prominent community spaces, the project seeks to encourage greater awareness and foster healthier behaviours among community members, particularly younger generation.
The Drug and Tobacco-Free Zone billboard at Tavakubu Community Hall designates the hall and its immediate surroundings as an area where healthy choices are encouraged and supported. Community halls play an important role as gathering places for meetings, events, and social activities, making them ideal locations for promoting positive public health messages.
This initiative reflects the value of collaboration between community stakeholders and corporate partners in addressing important social and health challenges. Through the generous support of JP Bayly, communities are being provided with resources that contribute to health promotion and awareness at the grassroots level.
We are proud to be part of this initiative and look forward to working with communities across Fiji to promote healthier lifestyles and create environments that support the wellbeing of current and future generations.
Together, we can build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.
